Fine miniature portrait of John Fane, Earl of Westmorland.
John Fane lived 1784-1859 and held the title of Lord Burghersh until 1841.
He made a military career and served in the last war against France, which ended with the Peace of Amiens, which effectively ended the French Revolution in 1803.
He was English Ambassador to Austria in 1855 and attended the conference in 1855.

The picture is painted on bone and set in a fine gilded brass frame. The picture has some tear to the black on the shoulder.
