b. 22 August 1859, Viborg, Denmark.
d. 4 February 1935, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Lauritz Jensen was for a time student of Vilhelm Bissen (1836-1913) before he got admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1877 and graduated in 1885. During this period he was a permanent exhibitor at Charlottenborg and later a member of the censorship committee at Charlottenborg.
He was one of Denmark's very best animal sculptors and at The Nordic Exhibition in 1888 he attracted attention with 'Celts on horseback fighting with aurochs'. After his death, Jens Peter Dahl Jensen bought Lauritz Jensen's entire model collection and several of the figures are used as the basis for a lot of his porcelain animal figures.
