Like several other Chinese glazes craquelé gained a huge popularity in Denmark in the late 1920s. For the World Exhibition in Paris the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory had created several vases in the distinguished crackled glaze and both Royal Copenhagen, Bing & Grondahl and Lyngby porcelain quickly produced large series of vases, bowls and dishes in characteristic grey crackled glaze. Allowing different rates of shrinkage during the firing resulting in a network of cracks before it is decorated produces the glaze. The color is the applied into the cracks and further protective glaze is applied. Also Dahl Jensen followed that trend, but they did it entirely in their own way. Georg had achieved great results with cracquelé as early as 1928. While it can be hard to distinguish the other factories’ productions Dahl Jensen’s are set apart in many important aspects. Dahl-Jensen cracquelé has dark manganese markings in larger areas. Besides it has a different abundant decoration. It was mainly Crista Dahl-Jensen who made the hand painted overglaze decoration and these were often changed and renewed. The special glazes were made at the factory. The series of grey cracquelé was soon broadened with both a green and a red stock and a gold border. The blue colour, which none of the competitors had, was not created until the late 1950s (From the English summery of Dahl Jensen book by Bolette Bramsen)
