Bio:
Jais Nielsen (born Johannes Knud Ove Jais-Nielsen 23 April 1885, Copenhagen; died 8 November 1961, Hellerup) was a Danish painter and ceramist trained under Holger Grønvold, Kristian Zahrtmann, and Johan Rohde. He became a key figure in Danish modernism, working across painting, graphic art, and ceramics with expressive relief motifs and sculptural forms. Nielsen received honours including the Eckersberg Medal and the Thorvaldsen Medal, and his ceramic designs for Royal Copenhagen reflect his artistic narrative strength and high technical skill.
