Part of an aircraft (now used as an old metal sign) bearing the CONVAIR logo, which shows a flying black eagle with beige and blue details. The eagle is about to land and is seen against the background of a circle. Below the picture of the eagle is written "CONVAIR" in capital letters. The "sign" is raw cut and has a homemade hole for hanging at the top. CONVAIR helped develop the American Atlas rocket, known for sending the first Americans into orbit. Atlas was developed for the US Air Force's strategic missile forces by Convair, which was part of General Dynamics. In 1994, Convair was sold to McDonnell Douglas, shortly before Boeing swallowed the latter. The atlas missile's first successful test flight took place on 17 Dec. 1957.
