Item no.:490602
Description:
Length 17.5 cm. with frameWidth 14 cm. with frame.
Beautiful picture of flower bouquet of hair from the mid 1800s and forward.
In the past, having long hair was a status symbol as it was impractical to work in the field or in a factory where it was directly dangerous as it could get caught in a machine. It was therefore "reserved" for the bourgeoisie to have long hair.
It was therefore a great declaration of love for a working girl or woman to let her hair grow long and then cut it off for jewelry or a picture like this.
The frame has a small mark at the bottom and text on the back telling the story of the family member whose hair is in the picture.
