This black and white vintage photo from Greenland shows a route across Greenland, which the Americans in 1960 planned to explore in Project Lead Dog. First, there is a single route, which then divides and leads to Peary Land (named after Greenland explorer Robert E. Peary), respectively Crown Prince Christian's Land in Northern Greenland.Text at the backside of the photograph:
"A map of the area where Project "Lead Dog" US Army Polar Expedition will take place. Conducted by the U S Army Transportation Corps, Project "Lead Dog" is an 1,800 mile expedition to establish two safe overland routes from the crest of the Greenland Ice Cap to the ice free coast of Northeast Greenland. It is part of an overall program to develop techniques for transportation support in difficult environments. The 30-man Transportation Corps Task Force is accompanied by scientists of the Army's Transportation Corps, Medical Corps, Signal Corps, Quartermaster Corps, Engineer Corps and the Air Force Cambridge Research Center. 1960.
