Plaster bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Base in Giallo Siena marble from Italy. Made at the end of the 19th century. Brought home from a Grand Tour (educational journey).
H. 85 cm. W. approx. 57 cm.
Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor who ruled from 161 to 180. Part of the time together with his adoptive brother Lucius Verus. Aurelius is known as the last good emperor, "Philosopher on the Throne" and was a dedicated Stoic.
