A characteristic surrealist composition by Bert-Johnny Nilsson, in which a distorted figurative form merges with a classical piano. The organic, dreamlike motif is underscored by a delicate colour palette in yellow and green tones. Nilsson’s works from the 1970s are marked by humour, fantasy, and a clear inspiration from the imagery of surrealism.
Bio:
Bert-Johnny Nilsson (1934–2004) was a Swedish painter and graphic artist, educated at the Grafikskolan Forum in Malmö under Bertil Lundberg. His early works were characterised by erotic-surrealist themes with strong drama and grotesque scenarios, while his later production explored cosmic imagery and visions of a future threatened by catastrophe.
Nilsson exhibited both in Sweden and internationally, including at Malmö Museum, Lunds Konsthall and in Stockholm, as well as in Paris, Brussels, Washington and Varde (Denmark). He is represented in Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Malmö Museum, Västerås Konstmuseum, Norrköpings Konstmuseum and Ystad Art Museum.
