Bio:
Pierre d’Avesn was the artistic name of Pierre Girre (1901–1990), a key figure in French Art Deco glass. He began his career at the age of 14 working for René Lalique, where he spent nearly a decade contributing to the design of several iconic models, including the Serpent and Tourbillons vases. In later years, he worked independently and for various French glass manufacturers, developing a distinctive style characterised by sculptural forms, rhythmic vertical elements, and a refined balance between ornament and clarity. His glass designs from the 1930s are today regarded as important examples of French Art Deco design.
