Bio:
Josef Ekberg (1877–1945) was a Swedish ceramic artist and designer best known for his work at the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. He began his career at the factory in 1889 and developed into one of its most significant artistic figures. Ekberg became particularly recognised for his decorative ceramics featuring organic nature-inspired motifs, refined glazes and relief ornamentation. His work was influenced by the Art Nouveau movement and its inspiration from nature, while also encompassing more naturalistic and individually decorated pieces. His art ceramics from the early 20th century remain highly sought after by collectors of Swedish ceramics.
